Penelope Pitstop – The Perils of Penelope Pitstop

By Neoqueenhoneybee, September 7, 2017

I was fortunate to have seen a variety of cartoons as a child; cartoons that were considered ‘vintage’ even then. Perils of Penelope Pitstop was a part of my odd collection and she stuck with me my whole life. When I decided to attend RetroCon I knew she’d be the perfect fit.

Making Penelope was not super difficult; the hardest part was figuring out what her pants were called; I had no idea that they were called jodhpurs! I got so into finding the right patterns I made a post about researching it here. Making the costume wasn’t hard once I knew which patterns I wanted to use and was fortunate enough to already have the perfect fabrics.

Her gloves, boots and goggles were all ebay finds, but the jacket, pants, scarf and hat were handmade.

RetroCon 2014

I was most shocked with how many people knew my character. I had expected maybe three or four people to know who I was cosplaying, but seventy percent of the people I saw knew I was Penelope. Most of them recognized the character from Wacky Races, and even though she has a different outfit, same character!

Philly Pier Shoot 2017

Had a great shoot with Carina as we walked around the pier area; I think the most exciting part of the day was a random taxi driver who shouted out ‘PENELOPE PITSTOP’ as he made a u-turn near us. I couldn’t even believe it!!
